We all get older; not everyone gets wiser.

A wise person has learned: they make fewer of certain kinds of mistake – in particular the predictable, structural kind, the kind based on excessive optimism or pessimism, on folly or vice.

A wise person is learning: they make more of other kinds of mistake – the kind that come from trying new things, and the kind that come from working out how to apply old lessons to new situations.
