Seeking better
… seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Jesus of Nazareth – in Matthew’s Gospel
There are times that we know what “better” is. We’ve been there before, or seen it from afar, or can at least imagine it. So we seek it: we head in its direction; we follow the path.
Seeking better
I have run, I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with youBut I still haven’t found

What I’m looking for
Where we feel discomfort with the status-quo – or see that while change is inevitable, its direction might be up for us – the first step on the journey is to work out what better looks like. We seek it: we try to glimpse it, to find out what “better” might be like, so that we can go there.
Seeking better
But with me and you it just started quietly and grew
Cass Elliot – It’s Getting Better
And as we develop the habit of seeking – as we make it our practice to ask, seek, knock – as we persist – we get better at it. We seek, see and reach better more often; we carry it with us; we share it with others; we take them there.
